IN 2009, more than 50,000 pages of new laws were enacted at the federal, state and territory levels. These were in addition to the 100,000s of pages of existing laws.

The consequences are serious. The first is that Australia will cease to be a world leader in being governed in accordance with the rule of law, and instead become ruled by law (there being a fundamental difference). Secondly, the rule of law will be progressively replaced by the rule of the regulator, the antithesis of the rule of law.

The above text is from this article:

I don't know about the rest of you, but I am gobsmacked by the number of new laws enacted year by year. Quite staggering ! By Federal and State governments, by local Councils etc.
Especially as motorists. we are besieged on all sides by road safety regulators. RTA, TAC etc.
The Police are constantly seeking more powers. They want Tasers, they want no alcohol sold on Australia Day, they always want more power to "crackdown". On us.
As a motorist, you are automatically  presumed guilty if snapped by a "safety camera" .
This is a blatant infringement of the rule of law : I thought in a democracy like Australia we are innocent till proven guilty ? Hah !
Pretty soon, any traffic infringement will see the poor motorist hung drawn and quartered, without trial or appeal !!!

Makes me mad as Hell !!Angry

Of course, everything in this nanny state of ours is way too over regulated.

Trouble is, all these new regulations brought in will usually have a  $ penalty attached.

And SFA will actually go to real road safety improvements.

IMO the last decade has seen the slow demise of real road funding for safety projects and instead the real $$$$ has been concentrated on remote enforcement via cameras.

Sure there are the big "feel good" ones but in reality it's just a smoke and mirrors con job.

But with the amount of "revenue" being collected now, how much of this is actually increasing the visble presence of units on the road?
